How to Purchase Suitable Boiler Grate Bars During Maintenance

Boiler grate bars are active components directly involved in fuel combustion, widely used in thermal equipment such as chain grate steam boilers, hot water boilers, and thermal oil boilers. Therefore, to ensure the normal operation of the boiler, users must regularly inspect and maintain the chain grate and its boiler grate bars.

Common Faults of Chain Grates and Their Solutions

  1. Chain grate movement failure: Large fuel particles or other external forces cause the grate to get stuck, resulting in intermittent movement or even complete stoppage. In severe cases, the reducer fuse may burn out or the drive mechanism fuse pin may break. When encountering this situation, inspection and troubleshooting should be carried out immediately.
  2. Chain and gear meshing failure: This type of failure is mainly caused by severe wear due to long-term operation of the equipment. For this problem, the chain should be replaced in a timely manner.
  3. Chain grate beam bending: External forces or overload may cause the beam to bend, and it should be replaced immediately.
  4. Grate deviation during operation: This is mainly caused by improper adjustment of the front and rear axles during installation, leading to unstable operation of the grate.
  5. Fuel coking on the chain grate: Long-term use of low-quality bituminous coal or fuels with high oil content will cause coking on the surface of the grate. All impurities should be removed regularly.

Purchasing New Spare Parts for Chain Grates

In addition to regular maintenance and overhaul, the chain grate also needs to replace indispensable spare parts such as furnace grate bars during operation. Since many users do not fully understand the structure of the chain grate, they may encounter troubles and confusion when looking for and purchasing these accessories.

Usually, when discussing with suppliers, they need to know the necessary dimensions and photos of each component, such as length, width, height, aperture size, etc., including active parts, passive parts, pins, rollers, slag stoppers, etc., to provide customers with suitable products.

Some users may still not know how to provide this detailed information. To better help users, here is a brief introduction to the measurement dimensions of the components, taking a 20t/h rated capacity chain grate steam boiler as an example:

  1. Left and right boiler grate bars
    As shown in the figure, please measure the length, width, height and positioning dimensions of the boiler grate bars. Since the left and right bars are similar in appearance but the installation direction of the connecting parts is different, it is only necessary to measure either one.

  2. Middle grate bars
    The dimensions to be measured are as follows:

    Since the size of fish scales may vary between manufacturers and batches, detailed data on length, width, height, center spacing of holes, hole diameter and other parameters should be collected, as shown in the figure below.
  4. Chain
    Please provide the supplier with requirements such as length, number of sections, and thickness. The figure below shows a 20m long section with 125 sections.
  5. Boiler slag stopper/ash remover
    There is a row of slag stoppers at the end of the boiler. As shown in the figure below, for the slag remover or ash remover, it is necessary to measure the length of the arc and the distance between the two endpoints.
  6. Roller
    Please measure the overall length of the roller.
  7. Bushing
    Please provide the outer dimension and inner dimension of the bushing as below.

  8. Shaft
    Suppliers need to know the dimensions and overall length of the shaft.
  9. Grate buckle
    As shown in the figure below, you should provide your suppliers with the grate buckle’s end face diameter and the connecting part’s diameter.

  10. Side seal plate
    There are some differences in the side seal plate structure of each chain grate, so to buy the right product, please measure the following dimensions in detail: overall length, height, width, etc.
